The focus of the POEO Workshop will be on regulatory and contemporary environmental protection issues. This Workshop will be of particular interest to EHOs and other regulatory professionals such as Rangers and Compliance officers new to the field and those wanting to update their skills.

The 2 day ‘live-in’ program is designed to give a ‘hands on’ practical guide through the POEO legislative landscape. Topics over the two days will include:

  • POEO Act – the Legislative and Regulatory Structure and Local Government roles, the concept of the ARA, Cross Agency Interventions
  • Local Governments role in dealing with the impacts of rural land activities, such as intensive agricultural practices, burning, stockpiling and disposal of waste
  • POEO Act Powers
  • Drafting POEO Act Notices
  • Recent significant cases
  • Environmental incident management
  • Sampling
  • Water quality impacts from catchment pollution in Northern NSW fisheries
  • sediment and erosion control
  • Noise
  • Contaminated land and the UPSS Regulation
  • Clandestine labs
All delegates will need to bring their own sleeping bag and pillow as it is dormitory style accommodation. As the Workshop is in a national park, you might also want to pack some insect repellent and a torch. This workshop is being held in a fantastic location and everyone is encouraged to stay on site. Wednesday evening will be an excellent opportunity to network with fellow Environmental Health practitioners and the facilitators.
